Everything included
Full feature list
Every tool LoreLynx ships with today. No paywalls, no feature tiers. Everything here is available to all users.
Planning
Story Planner
Acts, chapters, and scenes in a draggable outline. Track status, reorder freely, and see your full structure without opening a doc.
Rich Scene Cards
Every scene has a Summary tab and a Details tab: POV, location, cast, conflict, stakes, beats, and notes in one card.
Plan Matrix View
Scrollable table showing every scene against every field, with inline editing for status, POV, and location. Spot imbalances at a glance.
Custom Scene Fields
Add your own metadata fields beyond the defaults and track anything per scene: tension, in-world date, whatever your story needs.
Beat Sheet Templates
Load a three-act, hero's journey, Save the Cat, mystery, or romance arc template to scaffold your outline instantly.
Plot Thread Tracker
Create named threads, tag scenes to them, and view a matrix of which threads run through which scenes.
Character Arc Tracker
Log Want, Need, Wound, Lie, Truth, Change, and Arc Notes for every character in your project.
Planning Board
Freeform kanban board for tasks, scene ideas, plot threads, or anything that doesn't belong in the outline.
Writing
Prose Editor
Scene-by-scene writing with your full manuscript always in the sidebar. Focus mode strips everything else away.
Rich Text Formatting
Bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, headings, blockquote, and lists: all available without leaving the keyboard.
Version History
Every save is stored. Browse up to 20 versions per scene, diff them, and restore any point without losing your current draft.
Alt Drafts
Keep multiple named drafts of the same scene and switch between them freely. The draft you mark canonical is the one that exports.
Scene Notes Panel
Plan fields (POV, location, beats, conflict) visible alongside the prose editor so you never lose context.
Entity Mention Highlighting
Codex entities are highlighted inline as you write. Hover to see the entry without leaving your scene.
Find & Replace
Ctrl+H opens find and replace with current-scene or whole-manuscript scope, plus match case and whole word options.
Scene Split
Split the active scene at your cursor into two scenes. Prose on both sides is preserved.
Typewriter Mode
Optional typewriter scrolling keeps your cursor vertically centered in the viewport while you type.
Scene Status Chips
Cycle each scene through Draft, Edited, and Final from the sidebar, then filter the outline by status.
Word Count Targets
Set word targets per scene, chapter, and act. Mini progress bars in the sidebar show how close you are.
Goals, Sprints & Stats
Daily word targets, streaks, session stats, a sprint timer in the editor footer, and a 14-week activity heatmap in the Stats panel.
Snippets
A scratchpad beside your manuscript for fragments, alternate lines, and notes that aren't part of the prose.
Revision Markers
Flag passages with color-coded highlights for later review. A marker timeline shows density across the full manuscript.
Inline Annotations
Leave non-prose comments inside the document. Annotations are stripped from every export format.
Scene Archive & Trash
Cut scenes go to an archive instead of oblivion, and deleted scenes sit in a recovery bin for 30 days.
Read-Through View
Read your full manuscript as continuous prose with act and chapter dividers. Click anywhere to jump back into the editor.
Spell-check Ignore List
Add proper nouns, invented words, and world-specific terms so spell-check stops flagging your fantasy vocabulary.
Editor Appearance
Font and layout options for the editor, including the OpenDyslexic font.
Worldbuilding
Lore Vault
Categorized entries for characters, locations, factions, magic systems, items, and history: all in one searchable place.
Codex
Structured records for every entity: status, tags, notes, arcs, and portraits. Lore entries and codex entries are the same record, viewed two ways.
Custom Codex Categories
Define your own entity types with a label, glyph, and status pills. They appear alongside the built-in categories everywhere.
Codex Portraits
Upload a portrait for any entity, shown on its codex card and in hover previews.
Aliases & Exclude Phrases
Match entities by nicknames, titles, and shortened forms, and suppress false positives for common words.
Codex Progressions
Track how an entity changes across the story: knowledge gained, power shifts, state changes, all tied to scene order.
Stat Sheets & Progression Systems
Number fields become per-entity stat sheets with scene-aware changes, XP tables, rank ladders, holdings, and a continuity check against your prose. Built for LitRPG and progression fantasy, and easy to ignore if that is not your genre.
Mentions & Backlinks
See every scene, lore entry, and timeline event where an entity appears, with a per-scene appearance heatmap.
Entity Story Timeline
Every entry gets a story-ordered timeline: first and last appearance, progressions with their stat changes, relations as they begin and end, and linked timeline events.
Portrait Prompts
Compose a ready-to-paste image-generator prompt from an entry's description, appearance fields, and tags, with one shared art style per project. No AI call, just a well-built prompt.
Maps
Upload world maps or draw from scratch with the built-in canvas: pencil, brush, fill, shapes, and text tools included.
Map Pins
Place named pins anywhere on your map. Each pin can hold notes and links to codex entities.
Timeline
Build your world's history as events organized by era, by hand or extracted from your lore.
Faction Matrix
Track relationship tension between every faction pair. A quick reference for political dynamics and alliance states.
Cross-Linking
Link any lore entry, codex entity, scene, timeline event, or map pin to any other. Navigate from chip.
Global Search
Ctrl+K searches across lore, codex, timeline, board cards, map pins, and scene prose. A command palette hides behind the > prefix.
Name Generators
Roll character, place, and tavern names from curated syllable banks. No AI involved, instant, endless rerolls.
Writing Prompts
A random prompt on every empty scene for when the page is too blank. Reroll until one sparks.
Stats Dashboard
Per-act word counts, POV and status breakdowns, location frequency, and a character-by-scene appearance matrix.
AI: Completely Optional
Optional · Can be fully disabledLore Chat with RAG
Ask anything about your world and get streamed answers grounded in your saved lore. With an embedding model, retrieval is semantic, not keyword.
Chat That Sees Your Story
Toggle outline, scene, and act context into chat. Send replies to a scene or entity, or extract codex entries, beats, and map pins straight from a message.
Write Assist
Expand, rephrase, or shorten selected text, then review the result as an inline word diff and apply or discard it.
AI Continue
Press Ctrl+Enter and the AI picks up from your cursor. Good for breaking blocks, not for replacing your voice.
AI Autocomplete
Ghost-text word suggestions appear as you type. Press Tab to accept or keep writing to dismiss. Off by default.
Draft & Beat Generation
Turn a logline into a beat-by-beat outline, or generate prose from a chapter or act outline, grounded in your codex so it won't invent canon.
Entity Extraction
Automatically identify characters, locations, factions, magic systems, and items from saved lore and add them to the Codex.
Timeline Extraction
Pull historical events out of your saved lore and add them to your timeline automatically.
Build the Codex from Your Manuscript
Point it at your prose and it proposes characters, locations, factions, relations, and events scene by scene, staged for review before anything is added. Rerun it later on only the scenes that changed.
Entity Profiles from the Manuscript
Fill an entry's detail fields from the scenes it actually appears in: appearance, personality, goals, and interactions, written to the codex only after you approve, with one-click undo.
Lore Analysis
Scan saved lore for contradictions, timeline conflicts, gaps like missing motives, and details a POV character couldn't know.
Custom Prompt Library
Write your own prompts with variables like codex lookups and user-filled inputs, save modifier presets, and preview the assembled prompt before it sends.
Local AI via LM Studio or Ollama
Run everything locally with LM Studio or Ollama. Nothing leaves your machine. No API key, no subscription, full privacy.
Cloud AI, Your Key
Bring your own key for OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, Mistral, or OpenRouter (300+ models). Keys are encrypted on your device, never stored on our servers.
Local Model Recommender
Not sure what model your machine can handle? Get a suggestion based on your GPU and RAM.
Per-feature Toggles
Every AI feature has its own switch, plus per-entry and per-field exclusions. Turn it all off and LoreLynx is still a complete writing tool.
Projects & Sync
Project Library
Full-page home screen with project cards, cover art, and a 'continue where you left off' strip. Rename, export, or delete from the card.
Multiple Projects
Each project is fully isolated: separate lore, maps, timelines, outlines, and prose. Switch instantly.
Collections
Group a series into a collection with shared codex canon, shared lore, a series timeline, and a collection-wide style bible.
Team Workspaces
Invite co-writers as editors, or readers who see everything and change nothing. Per-scene locks, live presence, scene comments, an activity feed, and ownership transfer.
Cloud Sync
Changes sync automatically in the background. Conflict detection surfaces a banner if another device edited the same project.
Works Offline
Lore, planning, writing, and maps all work without a connection. Only sync and AI need the network.
Local Backups
Rolling local snapshots alongside cloud sync, so one bad sync never means lost work.
Recently Deleted
Deleted projects go to a trash you can restore from, and restored projects re-file into the collection they came from.
Project Export & Import
Export your full project as JSON: all lore, prose, maps, timeline, and settings. Import on any device in one step.
Manuscript Export
Export to Markdown, DOCX, EPUB, or print-ready PDF with title page, cover, and pen name. Pick exactly which scenes to include, or export the outline alone.
Project Bible
Compile your codex, world lore, timeline, and outline into one reference document, exported as Markdown, PDF, or DOCX.
Import Your Existing Work
Bring drafts in from Word (.docx), PDF, Scrivener, Notion, or Obsidian exports.
World Pages for Readers
Publish hand-picked codex entries alongside a book on the feed: portraits, stats, and relations as they stood at the chapter you choose, held back until that chapter is released. Off unless you turn it on, entry by entry.
Share Links
Read-only share links with labels and expiry dates. Recipients see your manuscript in a clean reading layout, no account needed. Revoke any link at any time.
Covers & Pen Name
Upload a cover image and set a pen name per project. Both appear on the library card and your exports.
Story Compass
Logline, theme, central question, protagonist goal, antagonist, setting, and notes: automatically included in every AI context.
Prose & Style Bible
Record your voice rules and style decisions. Injected into every AI writing action to keep output on-brand.
Themes
Four themes: Ink, Parchment, Midnight, and Forest, synced to your account so every device matches.
Achievements
A gamified tour of the app. Unlock badges by trying features, or ignore it entirely.
Onboarding & Example World
A guided first-run tour, plus The Ember Throne, a fully built example project you can open and explore.
